Sun, Sand, and Seafood: The Best Restaurants in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Tamarindo, Costa Rica—a place where golden beaches, swaying palm trees, and vibrant sunsets set the scene for some truly unforgettable meals. If you’re anything like me, food plays a huge role in your travel experience. There’s just something about discovering hidden culinary gems, sipping a cold drink with your toes in the sand, and tasting fresh flavors that make a destination even more special. And let me tell you, Tamarindo delivers! Whether you're in the mood for beachfront dining, fresh-off-the-boat seafood, or a Mediterranean feast, this town has something for every craving.

Here are some of my favorite spots that you absolutely need to check out when in Tamarindo:

Langosta Beach Club – Where the Beach Meets Elegance

Imagine this: You're sitting under the shade of lush tropical trees, just steps away from the ocean. A gentle breeze rolls in as you sip on a perfectly crafted cocktail. Sounds like paradise, right? That’s exactly what Langosta Beach Club offers.

This place has it all—stunning views, a chill yet upscale atmosphere, and some of the best food in town. Whether you’re here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you’re in for a treat. The seafood is ridiculously fresh, the drinks are top-tier, and the service? Impeccable. The staff here truly makes you feel like family. A special shoutout to Robert, David, Cesar, Bryan, and Martha for going above and beyond to make every visit memorable.

If you’re lucky enough to stay at Casa Secreta nearby, you’re in for an even bigger treat. But even if you’re just passing through, do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon here. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

El Chiringuito – Fresh Catch and Beachfront Vibes

Have you ever gone fishing and then had a restaurant cook your catch just the way you like it? If not, El Chiringuito is the place to make that happen. We found this spot thanks to our charter boat captain, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

The staff here is warm and welcoming, making you feel at home from the moment you step in. They’ll prepare your fish however you like—grilled, fried, in a taco, you name it! And if you’re just here for the drinks, they’ve got a solid happy hour with two-for-one specials.

Pro tip: If you’re visiting during mosquito season, either wear repellent or grab a seat up on the wooden planks under the fans—it’s the best way to enjoy your meal without becoming dinner for the bugs!

Sofia Mediterraneo – A Taste of the Mediterranean in Costa Rica

If you’re looking to mix things up and take a break from seafood (but why would you?), Sofia Mediterraneo is an excellent choice. This cozy restaurant brings the best flavors from Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, France, and Morocco straight to Tamarindo. Think freshly grilled seafood, succulent lamb, and juicy steaks, all infused with Mediterranean spices that transport your taste buds across the world.

One of the standout experiences here is the attention to detail. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted warmly, and the staff takes the time to ensure your meal is perfect. If you have dietary restrictions, they’re more than happy to accommodate. A huge shoutout to Kathy, who made sure my friend’s food allergies were carefully considered.

And let’s not forget the live music! If you visit on a night when Manuel Monestel is performing, you’re in for a soulful evening of beautiful songs in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. It’s the kind of place where you come for the food but stay for the atmosphere.

Final Thoughts: Tamarindo is a Foodie’s Paradise

Tamarindo isn’t just about surfing and sunsets—it’s also a foodie’s dream. Whether you’re craving a laid-back beachside meal, fresh seafood prepared just for you, or a Mediterranean-inspired feast, this town has something special for you.

So, which of these restaurants are you adding to your must-visit list? Or do you have a hidden gem in Tamarindo that I should check out next time? Let me know—I’m always up for a delicious adventure!
