A Journey through Southern Spain Part 4

Driving to Ronda: A Serene Journey

The road to Ronda is a simple yet stunning drive through Andalusia's rugged terrain. As you ascend the mountainside, you're greeted by towering cliffs and deep valleys, offering breathtaking views along the way. The road is smooth and well-paved, with a mix of sharp bends and gentle curves that make for an enjoyable ride. There are plenty of spots to pull over and take in the scenery, from panoramic vistas to glimpses of the distant horizon. Arriving in Ronda, you'll find a town rich in history and tradition. And for motorsport enthusiasts, don't miss the famous Circuit Ascari. But above all, the drive to Ronda is a reminder that sometimes, the simplest journeys lead to the most memorable experiences.

Hotel Catalonia Ronda: A Blend of History and Modern Comfort

During my recent stay in Ronda, I had the pleasure of experiencing the hospitality of Hotel Catalonia Ronda, and it did not disappoint. When I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the stage for a memorable stay.

Upon check-in, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had been upgraded to a spacious room with separate shower and tub. The room was huge, clean, and thoughtfully appointed with every amenity I could possibly need. Despite being located on the first floor towards the street, the well-isolated windows ensured a peaceful night's sleep, free from any street noises.

One of the highlights of my stay was the impressive breakfast buffet, offering a delightful array of sweet and savory options, including fresh cooked egg dishes and an abundance of fruits. The rooftop terrace, with its breathtaking views of the bullring arena and mountains, provided the perfect backdrop for enjoying a leisurely breakfast or unwinding with a cocktail at the bar.

While the hotel exceeded my expectations in many aspects, there was one minor downside - the unheated pools on the terrace. Unfortunately, this meant that I was unable to take a dip and fully enjoy the serene surroundings. However, this small inconvenience did little to detract from the overall experience.

Taberna El Almacén: A Culinary Delight in Ronda

After a friend's recommendation, I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did.Walking into the taberna, I was greeted by the friendliest staff, setting the tone for a laid-back evening. The tapas were simply delicious, especially the salmon with leek and the San Pedro fish with black pasta – flavors.

The grilled veggies and crackers were a tasty start, while the fried anchovies stuffed with ham and mushroom croquettes added a delightful variety to the meal. Accompanied by a glass of local Ronda white wine, the dining experience was complete – not too fancy, just right.

The lemon mousse dessert was a delightful surprise, and the complimentary shot added a fun touch to the evening. Throughout my meal, the service was prompt and friendly, making me feel right at home.

Taberna El Almacén offers a cozy ambiance that's perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring Ronda. With moderate prices and exceptional food, it's a place I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

A huge thank you to the staff, including Rossio, Evelin, and the talented chefs, for an unforgettable dining experience. I can't wait to return for another round of delicious tapas!

Discovering Culinary Bliss at Restaurante Tropicana

After hearing rave reviews from locals and fellow travelers alike, I couldn't resist the urge to see what all the fuss was about.

The friendly waitstaff greeted me with smiles and guided me through the menu with expert recommendations. As I perused the menu, I couldn't help but be impressed by the variety of tantalizing options available. After much deliberation, I decided to start with the Tropicana salad. For the main course, the octopus stole the show with its perfectly cooked tenderness and the delightful combination of spices. Paired with flavorful sauces, it was a true culinary masterpiece that left me wanting to lick my plate clean.

Throughout the meal, the waitstaff went above and beyond to ensure that I had a memorable dining experience. I especially appreciated their willingness to converse with me in Spanish and provide extra explanations as I continue to learn the language.

In conclusion, Restaurante Tropicana is truly a hidden jewel in Ronda. With its fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, and mouthwatering food, it's a must-visit for anyone exploring the city.

The Magnificence of Puente Nuevo in Ronda

My journey to Puente Nuevo was accompanied by a gusty wind that added an element of drama to the experience. Standing tall, this bridge spans the deep El Tajo gorge, connecting the old and new parts of Ronda. Its sheer presence commands attention, beckoning travelers to explore its depths and admire its grandeur.

On one side of the bridge, I stumbled upon a small attraction offering visitors the chance to venture beneath the arches for a fee. While the idea intrigued me, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. For a nominal fee of €2.50, visitors can explore a limited section beneath the bridge. However, I found this excursion somewhat underwhelming and not entirely worth the cost.

Undeterred by the initial disappointment, I ventured to the other side of the bridge, where a more rewarding experience awaited. For a modest fee of €5 per person, visitors can embark on a captivating journey down the rugged cliffs, offering unrivaled views of the bridge and surrounding landscapes. This excursion is a must-do for any visitor to Ronda, offering a unique perspective of Puente Nuevo and its stunning surroundings.

As the day transitioned into evening, I marveled at the ever-changing beauty of Puente Nuevo. The bridge took on a different persona with each passing hour, reaching its zenith of beauty during the enchanting sunset. The play of light and shadows cast a spellbinding aura over the landscape, etching memories that would last a lifetime.

While Puente Nuevo is undeniably awe-inspiring, navigating the area can be a bit tricky. Beware of the information booth near the bridge, which offers access to a small museum for a fee but may leave visitors feeling underwhelmed. For those seeking the true essence of Puente Nuevo, head to the old town side of the bridge to access the pathway leading down to its base. Be prepared for a steep descent, but rest assured, the panoramic views make every step worthwhile.

My Stay at So Sotogrande Hotel: A Relaxing Break

After my adventure in Ronda, I drove over to So Sotogrande Hotel for a quick stop before heading to Gibraltar. The hotel staff were super friendly when I arrived, which was a nice start.

What made me smile was how they took me to my room—in a golf buggy! It was a fun ride and a cool way to get around.

The room itself was big and comfy, giving me a cozy feeling right away. After settling in, I decided to check out the spa. And let me tell you, it was amazing! The whole place was so peaceful, and I felt totally relaxed after my time there.

Even though I only stayed for one night, the breakfast the next morning was delicious. It was different from the usual buffet style—you actually order off the menu. But the best part? If your breakfast is included, there's no extra charge. Plus, the staff at breakfast were super friendly and professional.

But you know what really blew me away? The gym! They had some seriously cool stuff, like a floating tank and a cryochamber. I've never seen anything like it at any other resort, even though I've traveled quite a bit.
