My Stay in Caen, France

About Caen

What I really loved about Caen was its vibe. It’s lively but not overwhelming, with plenty of cafés, shops, and markets to explore. The locals are friendly, and the food—oh, the food! Normandy is known for its dairy products, so I made it a mission to try as much cheese and butter as possible. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a fresh baguette with some local Camembert or indulging in a traditional Normandy apple tart. The city’s markets are full of fresh produce, and they’re perfect for picking up picnic supplies or just soaking in the local atmosphere.

In the evenings, Caen has a pretty cool nightlife scene, with plenty of bars and restaurants where you can relax with a glass of cider (another Normandy specialty) or a nice cocktail. Whether you’re into quiet, intimate spots or more vibrant scenes, there’s something for everyone.

Best Western Plus Hotel Moderne

I stayed at the Best Western Plus Hotel Moderne, and it was such a great choice. The hotel is right in the town center, so it was super easy to get to all the cool spots and monuments in the city.

The first thing I noticed was how welcoming the hotel felt. The lobby is bright and cheerful, with tasteful decor that made me feel at home right away. It’s one of those places where you just know you’re going to have a good stay.

My room was exactly what I needed—quiet and cozy. Even though the hotel is in the middle of everything, I didn’t hear a peep from outside or from other guests. The bed was really comfy, with a mattress that was just right. I slept so well every night, which is a big deal when you’re traveling. The room had everything I needed, and it was nicely decorated, too.

The staff at the hotel were fantastic. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, from check-in to when I needed advice on where to go in the city. Rebecca in the breakfast room was a standout—she was so kind and made me feel really welcome every morning.

Breakfast was another highlight. There were so many options, and everything was delicious and fresh. The breakfast room itself was a nice, calm spot to start the day, and I always left feeling ready to take on whatever the day had in store.
