Exploring Monterey Bay Aquarium's Underwater
In the midst of my golfing escapades in Monterey, I decided to take a refreshing aquatic detour to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Amidst days of teeing off on Monterey's golf courses, I swapped my golf shoes for a chance to explore the mesmerizing world beneath the ocean's surface.
My aquarium adventure began early in the day, and I was greeted by a pleasantly uncrowded environment. The first floor unveiled a towering kelp forest in vibrant yellow, initially appearing almost too perfect to be real. Yet, it turned out to be the world's tallest kelp forest in any aquarium, reaching an impressive height of 28 feet. This underwater marvel provided a captivating habitat for a diverse array of marine life.
In a dazzling moment, a school of sardines made a synchronized entrance, moving with mesmerizing precision. Sharks, graceful rays, and a host of other captivating marine species soon joined the underwater spectacle. The aquarium's dedicated focus on the marine wonders of Monterey Bay, including the enchanting kelp forest and the beloved sea otters, beckons over 2 million visitors annually. With a diverse assembly of more than 600 species of plants and animals, the Monterey Bay Aquarium ranks among the world's most prestigious aquatic institutions.
Venturing to the second level, I explored an array of captivating exhibits, with the "Open Sea" exhibit standing out. This massive tank, boasting a sweeping 90-foot window, offered a mesmerizing view of the tranquil yet rhythmic movements of sea creatures. Here, I marveled at the elegant sea turtles, the graceful rays, the majestic sharks, and the silvery sardine swarms, among other captivating marine inhabitants.
As I delved deeper into the wonders of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I stumbled upon a delightful revelation – Pixar found inspiration within these walls while creating the beloved film "Finding Dory."
