4 Amazing Hotels in Costa Rica You Need to Stay At (Part 2)
Alright, fellow wanderlusters—let’s dive into part two of my Costa Rican adventure! If you haven’t already, check out part one for some must-visit spots, but today, I’m giving you the inside scoop on four incredible hotels that will make your trip unforgettable. Whether you’re looking for beachfront luxury, jungle serenity, or the perfect blend of both, I’ve got you covered.
Let’s start with a little gem by the ocean…
1. Capitán Suizo – A Beachfront Paradise
Ever dreamed of waking up to the sound of waves, stepping outside, and immediately sinking your toes into soft golden sand? That’s exactly what you get at Capitán Suizo in Tamarindo. This place is a mix of relaxed beach vibes and refined comfort, making it the perfect stay whether you’re an adventure junkie or just want to sip cocktails under the palm trees.
The hotel itself blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings. Think lush gardens, monkeys swinging through the trees, and iguanas casually strolling past your lounge chair. The rooms? Absolutely stunning! If you can, go for a beachfront bungalow—it comes with an outdoor shower, a Jacuzzi, and floor-to-ceiling windows that let you wake up to breathtaking ocean views.
The spa here is an experience in itself. You can have a massage right on the beach, letting the sound of the waves lull you into total relaxation. Honestly, it’s the kind of place that makes you forget what day it is (and isn’t that the whole point of a vacation?).
Oh, and let’s talk about the food—absolutely top-notch! The fries? Easily in my top five best-ever. Plus, the staff is incredible, going above and beyond to make your stay perfect.
Bonus moment: One morning, a bunch of monkeys decided to wake us up (cute), and one of them, well… relieved itself on my mom (not so cute—but absolutely hilarious). Nature, am I right?
Nearby activities: Swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing—you name it, you can do it here. And Tamarindo town is just a short, scenic walk away
2. Santarena Hotel – Coastal Elegance in Las Catalinas

If you’re looking for something with a bit of old-world charm mixed with modern luxury, Santarena Hotel in Las Catalinas is where it’s at. Think elegant Havana and Cartagena vibes—arched terraces, lush courtyards, and an atmosphere that’s both sophisticated and laid-back.
I stayed in the Danta Standard Room, which was spacious, stylish, and came with either a balcony or a little garden area—perfect for unwinding. The hotel also gives you access to a rooftop pool with some of the most incredible ocean and town views I’ve seen. Oh, and sometimes there’s a gin cart at sunset. Need I say more?
The restaurant, Ponciana, is inspired by Mediterranean summers, and the food is outstanding. They source ingredients from Costa Rican farms, mountains, and the sea, and every meal felt like a treat. Breakfast, lunch, cocktails—it’s all done right.
One of the best parts of this location? The hiking trails! If you’re an outdoor lover, you’ll be thrilled to find miles of well-marked trails that take you through stunning cliffs and offer breathtaking bay views. We hiked up one of the mountains, and the panoramic scenery was something I’ll never forget.
The only thing I’d knock a point off for is that it’s a bit far from the airport, and the roads can get pretty bumpy. If you have a sensitive stomach, definitely bring some motion sickness meds. Other than that? Absolute perfection.
Nearby activities: Beach lounging, kayaking, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and biking. If you don’t bring your own gear, check out Pura Vida Ride in town for rentals. We had an absolute blast exploring the nearby island—saw tons of fish, a sea turtle, and just soaked in the pure beauty of Costa Rica.
Oh, and don’t forget the rooftop pool—grab a cocktail from the bar downstairs, head up, and watch the sun dip below the horizon. It’s pure magic.
Would I stay here again? A thousand times yes.
Cala Luna – Mindful Luxury in Tamarindo
Cala Luna is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a dream. It’s peaceful, lush, and seamlessly blends luxury with nature. If you want a quiet, organic, and truly immersive Costa Rican experience, this is your spot.
I stayed in the Secluded Deluxe Room, and let me tell you, it was perfection. The vaulted ceilings, earthy tones, and the tropical plants surrounding my room made it feel like my own little hideaway. Plus, you’re never alone—wildlife like monkeys, hummingbirds, and iguanas love hanging around the property, making every morning a magical wake-up call.
One thing Cala Luna takes seriously is sustainability. Everything from their soaps to their farm-to-table menu is eco-friendly and organic. Their commitment to green living is impressive and really adds to the overall experience. Speaking of food—their restaurant is amazing! We had the most beautiful Christmas Eve dinner, and every dish was packed with fresh, local flavors. Bonus: They infuse their drinks with herbs from their own farm—how cool is that?
While the pool area is on the smaller side, it’s never crowded, and there’s always a spot to lounge. Plus, the hotel has a private beach where you can unwind in total peace. No umbrellas needed—nature provides all the shade you need. A heads-up: Since it’s a tropical paradise, mosquitoes are inevitable. The hotel provides repellent, but if you’re a mosquito magnet like me, you might want to bring extra! Would I stay here again? In a heartbeat. Cala Luna is truly a hidden gem in Tamarindo, offering a slice of heaven for those who want relaxation with a side of adventure.
Nearby activities: Private beach lounging, farm-to-table dining, wildlife spotting, and serene nature walks.
BahĂa Pez Vela – A Secluded Coastal Retreat
Nestled along the Pacific coast in Guanacaste, BahĂa Pez Vela is the definition of a hidden paradise. If you’re looking for peace, privacy, and breathtaking ocean views, this resort delivers. The beach is secluded and pristine, perfect for snorkeling or simply soaking up the sun. The infinity pool and restaurant/bar offer spectacular views of the ocean, making every meal feel like a special occasion. The food is delicious but can be a bit pricey—though that’s expected at a resort.
The rooms are spacious, well-kept, and come with excellent AC. A quick tip: If you book a studio apartment, double-check whether it has a plunge pool. Some descriptions can be misleading! While the resort is peaceful, keep in mind that you’ll need to drive for excursions, shopping, or dining out. That being said, Coco Beach is only a 15-minute drive away and offers plenty of restaurants and shops.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely! If you love privacy, stunning beaches, and a laid-back vibe, BahĂa Pez Vela is a dream come true.
